OFFICIAL MINUTES LRC 9/17/02

The monthly board meeting was held on Tuesday, September 17, 2002 with all directors present.

Director of Tennis Mike Smith discussed upcoming tennis events - USPTA Exhibition to be held Saturday, November 2, 2002 at 3:00 PM. This will be a charity event for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Eight (8) pros will play in a round robin format - 3 matches. A Welcome Back tennis event is tentatively scheduled for Friday, November 8, 2002. Details to follow. The shot of the month continues on the first Friday of each month at 11:00 AM. Mike also advised the board that no decision or change will take place until January 2003 in regard to the position at Laurel Oak.

There was further discussion of the playing status of Erik Luxembourg at LRC. It was felt that too many exhibitions were being held and that the Director of Tennis should and does have the right to approve exhibitions. It was proposed that the tennis committee establish framework and parameters and recommend no more than 2 to 3 exhibitions a month. Mike Smith has the final decision on exhibitions.

A request to reestablish water aerobics was brought before the board and was unanimously approved. Club manager Kevin Richards requested that the instructor furnish the club with proof of certification and insurance. Class tentatively scheduled to be held Wednesdays at 10:00 AM but can be changed or additional classes offered if necessary.

A suggestion was made to post three (3) bulletin boards near the coffee area at the club consisting of 1) a social board, 2) a tennis board and 3) a business board. Kevin Richards will look into this request. It was brought up that the piano in the Lakeside Clubhouse needs to be kept in a cool environment. The A/C will remain on to eliminate a humidity problem. A humidistat can be added.

Treasurer Jere Berkey reported that the club is in good shape. Bearing any unforeseen operating expenses between now and the end of the year 2002, the LRC should realize a projected surplus of income over expenditures in the range of $20,000 to $24,000.

Club Manager Kevin Richards reported that the monthly court maintenance is scheduled for September 20th - 22nd. Courts are in good condition. Several loose paver bricks will be repaired. Replacing of the canopies on the pool deck has been completed. The LRC staff will be painting the wall around the pool area once a committee has decided on a color. New landscaping has been completed on the south side of the gazebo area. Similar landscaping will be done on the north side of the gazebo in the next few days.

Upcoming Social Programs: Staff Appreciation Day will be held Friday, October 11, 2002. The cost is $3.00 per person and everyone wishing to attend is asked to sign up in the Pro Shop and bring along a favorite dish. A Newcomers Party for all new residents of The Landings from September 2001 - September 2002 will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2002.

The Welcome Back Snowbirds party will be held in November. Details to follow. Old Business: An LRC member is using club facilities after the scheduled closing time of 9:00 PM. President Ralph Ricapito will speak to this person. A discussion on keeping the facilities open later led to the suggestion of submitting an article to The Eagle to get opinions (pros & cons). Ralph and Kevin Richards will follow up.

Jack Jost reported that the acoustical consultant has received drawings of the Lakeside Clubhouse and will be giving the club ideas and suggestions on how to remedy the acoustics problems.

New Business: An LRC member has been using the tennis facilities without benefit of reserving a court, beginning play prior to the 8:00 AM starting time and not registering guests. The member will be advised of the rules and regulations regarding play.

Bob Fernander questioned whether or not the idea of having an Associate Membership had been put to rest. It was felt that effort would be put into the Newcomers get together. Bob also brought up for discussion the fact that the  facilities are hardly used during the months of May through September. Should we offer a "summer membership" to individuals living outside The Landings? The board did not react favorably to this suggestion.

The next board meeting will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at 2:00 PM.
